Tarragona is a lively town in Catalonia, just 100 km South of Barcelona. The city was known as Tarraco during the Roman Empire and you may still find some of the best preserved ancient Roman vestiges in the Iberian Peninsula, such as the Amphitheatre of circa the 2nd Century AD. From the Balcò del Mediterrani, the Balcony of the Mediterranean, you may enjoy a great view of Tarragona's sea and of the marvelous sandy beach. The ancient Romans took advantage of Tarragona's unique location to trade with the various Mediterranean settlements. Another of Tarragona's attraction is one of the biggest amusement parks in Europe: Universal Port Aventura, located in Salou, just 9 Km away.
